no Figurines this Xmas
It was also the first time for quite some years when I didn’t feel too much money pressure because we’d used a loan consolidation service in the summer and are finally feeling on top of things financially – it surprised me how much better we felt having reviewed the situation and taken some action. I only wish we’d gone for counseling sooner and hadn’t struggled on our own for so long.
The lead up to the big day was pretty frantic. First there were the kids auditions for the school Christmas play, Then a hasty creation of angel costumes which involved us dashing over to a friend’s house the night before and borrowing her sewing machine. It was worth it though. The children looked so sweet in all their costumes, especially Robert in his little kilt. Most parents (me included) had tears in their eyes as their little ones nervously negotiated the stage but gave it their all. Robert of course has no nerves, he belted out the songs like a seasoned professional – I have no idea where he gets his confidence from.
The ensemble was even more complete this year as Michael, who is wheel chair bound, was able to participate thanks to the new chair lift recently installed between the ground floor and the gallery. The fundraising the school have done over the last 2 years was hard work but really worthwhile – and we got there eventually – I think it really helped bring the community together. All those cake sales, fancy-dress bingo and sports quizzes & the other events were such good fun. Next project will be to improve the facilities in the arts & music cabins.
Christmas day itself went very well and we had a lot of fun learning to play majong – why are these things so addictive? Once you have a go it’s hard to put it down. Later on all the children we were messing about with Robert’s new magnet game and Michael loved his new X-Box though he had trouble getting it off Nanna – who says the elderly aren’t good with new technology?
My favourite present was a bonsai tree which Alfie bought me. I hope I can keep this one longer than the last one I had. I managed to over water that one and killed it within 3 months! Mind you, I think the way he wrapped it probably didn’t do it much good – and the dog had had a go at it during the night. Who knows – maybe it will live to see next Christmas when we get to do it all over again!.
Well that’s it for now. I’ll be writing again in the New Year when I start my new distance learning course.
Happy New Year to you and yours!
